Me & Ruby Woo

I've always been a little intimidated of color on my lips. I had a birthday get together to attend last night and decided to try something different. After work I made a quick stop at the Macy's MAC counter. After trying on a few shades, I immediately fell in love with a lipstick shade called Ruby Woo. I mean I really loved the color against my skin tone. I know I'm late on the this trend, red lips have been in for while now. I just didn't think I could ever pull it off. I've been dying to try a new look and I think the red lip is a great start!

Travelista

About a year ago I made a vow to myself to start taking a trip every year. It has been my dream to travel around the world. I decided I was going to stop talking about and just do it. Last year I took my first international trip. I traveled to Tokyo, Japan to visit my sis who happened to be studying abroad there. It was the trip of a lifetime! I had an amazing time. Came back a different person, the world is huge, full of so many cultures and I plan to see as much as I can! Keeping my promise to myself, this year I traveled to Puerto Rico by myself! I was super nervous at first, turned out to be one of the best experiences ever. Forced me out of my comfort zone. I love Puerto Rico! Met some interesting people, ate the most delicious food, went to a rain forest, visited a couple of museums, and attended a show featuring the Puerto Rican symphony. I cannot wait for my trip next year, I am debating between South America and Europe....decisions, decisions. Below are  few pics from my travels to Japan and Puerto Rico.

Whatever Happened to Cree Summer?

Don't know about you but I use to be and still am  a huge fan of the sitcom "A Different World". I watch re-runs whenever I can. My favorite of course was the character Freddie Brooks played by the awesome Cree Summer. Not only did the free spirited Freddie have some pretty crazy awesome style, but I loved how she was always taking a stand on political issues and speaking her mind. She wasn't afraid to be different and didn't care if people thought she was weird. After the show ended Cree came out with her debut album titled "Street Faerie". This is an album I still listen to. I'll be honest, I didn't and still don't think she has the most amazing voice. Her voice wasn't really what captured me, it was purely her lyrics. Oh and of course I can't forget to mention that Lenny Kravitz helped produce it, and I am Lenny fan! I first started listening to this album during a time when I was really trying to figure out who I was. I could relate to almost every song. How refreshing it was to hear her approach on different life experiences. The minute I purchased it, I must have played it for almost a month.

So where is Cree these days? I know she does voice over's for cartoon characters. I wonder if she still sings. Wish she would put out another album. Below is the first video she made for the single Revelation Sunshine....one of my favorite's. I believe her album can still be purchased on itunes. The quality of this video is not that great, still I think you'll get the picture.  Enjoy!

White Sorority Wins Step Off

So I'm browsing Essence.com and I come across an article about how a White sorority caused some controversy by winning the national Sprite Step-Off Competition . I watch the video and wow these girls are amazing, I mean they are on it! I'm not sure how the other groups performed, but I could see why they won the grand prize. However, as I continued to read on, because the win caused such an uproar , Sprite apparently re-counted the votes and then called it a tie with the AKA's. I started laughing, wow here we go again with the race factor. I thought this competition was about talent not race. I have to be honest I was a little shocked at first, but after 5 minutes of watching, I could tell these ladies had some real talent. I have to give them kudos for entering an all Black competition. I like how at the end the guy says "stepping is for everyone, if you can step you can step", I have to agree. When you get a chance you should head over to Essence.com and read some of the ridiculous comments people made. Just goes to show how ignorant people can be both Black and White. I've posted the video below. I'll let you be the judge.
