World Music

I am a huge lover of music. I know most people will agree with me when I say that music is like therapy. I can comfortably say that there is a song out there for every mood I'm in. I enjoy it all....jazz, r&b, rock, hip-hop, classical, trip hop, electronica, and world music. These days I've been listening to a lot of world music. My love for music from other countries began my junior year of college. I remember it clearly, I was finished with classes and decided to do some web surfing, not really looking for anything particular I stumbled on this Swedish/Eritrean rap artist named Feven. I know....some of you are thinking swedish rap? Really? I had no idea what she was saying but I know that I liked the beats and I thought she had a nice flow. I later found out (from a swedish classmate) that most of her songs were about politics, mainly political issues going on in her native country Eritrea. Don't know what happend to her as I haven't seen or heard any new stuff from her since. So thus began my curiosity and love for foreign music. I might not know what is being said, but I can appreciate the different rythems, beats, and sounds being used. No doubt world music can be in english as well. In fact alot of international artist are starting to sing more in english to appeal to larger audience's.  Below are a few of my favorites at the moment. These artist are currently in rotation on my ipod.
